Welcome to the Prayer Eleven School of Christian Prayer. It’s a school of prayer that has until now only existed on the internet, but from January 2012 it will also be providing taught courses on prayer at a church in Beeston, Nottingham, in the UK. My dream is that churches everywhere will host schools of Christian prayer so that their congregations are helped to develop their knowledge, love of and commitment to their prayer lives. Whilst all churches encourage or urge their congregations to pray, and many organise regular prayer events in order to help people do just that, in my experience few churches really teach their members how to pray. So prayer meetings flounder as numbers are reduced to a few faithful people with the will power to keep going. Groups that meet in homes often scramble to put aside the last five minutes of their gathering in order to place their prayer requests before God, and individual Christians can struggle to find even ten minutes to spend each day in prayer, which often leads to feelings of guilt. I believe that prayer becomes much easier to do when we have learnt to love doing it. So through the courses available to download on this website, and through the Schools of Christian Prayer that I am praying will become a reality, my hope is that Christians everywhere will become lovers of prayer; that churches everywhere will truly become praying churches; and that through the prayers of the faithful many, we will see more of God’s power released into the world until one day the prophesy of Habakkuk is fulfilled, “For the earth will be filled with the knowledge of the glory of the LORD as the waters cover the sea.” (Habakkuk 2 : 14)
